About Us.
Since 1962
SA Field and Game (SAFGA) was formed in 1962 with a vision of like minded individuals to be a predominantly hunting organisation. It now has some 450 members across South Australia and has a strong conservation and hunting base with a dedicated clay target competition section. Conservation and sustainable hunting practices are strongly encouraged within the organisation in an attempt to help conserve our resources for future generations. SAFGA is also affiliated with several other like minded groups to further the conservation and sustainable hunting practice.
Currently there are 4 Branches that hold competitions on a monthly basis with 50 to 225 targets delivered at either of the 7 licensed ranges. In the early days clay target shooting was what one did in the closed season to keep up the skills for hunting. The clay target section of the Association has evolved to become arguably the major part of the Association today. The 7 licensed ranges have programed events which run from January to December which include club competitions, State Team qualifying events, State Championships and some clubs also host National and World Titles. SAFGA is a member body of Field and Game Federation of Australia (FGFA) and affiliated with FITASC (International Federation of the Sporting Arms Shooting and Hunting – governing body). All SAFGA Members are warmly welcome to attend any SAFGA event in South Australia and also any FGFA affiliated event Australia wide.
Some basics of sporting clays are that shot shells are restricted in accordance with the sporting clay rules. Hearing and eye protection is mandatory and must be worn whilst shooting. There is a code of conduct which must be observed on and around the grounds. Members include juniors from age 12, ladies, mens and veterans of all ages. Members of the public are always welcome to attend to observe or to participate under supervision. Accredited Firearms Training is provided in aspects of the sport. Strict safety rules are applied to the sport to comply with the rules, legislation and the SAPOL Firearms Branch. Membership of the SAFGA has restrictions and conditions do apply. Location of the respective ranges can be obtained from the annual program or by contact with the respective branches as listed on the Branch of this website
